On behalf of the selection committee, I am pleased to announce that Eugenia Bogdanova-Kummer, a PhD candidate at Heidelberg University, is the recipient of the thirteenth annual Chino Kaori Memorial Essay Prize. Her paper, titled “The Material is the Message: Rubbings and Prints in Postwar Japanese Calligraphy,” presents an interesting and original discussion on post-war Japanese calligraphy. Congratulations, Eugenia Bogdanova-Kummer!

We would like to thank those who submitted their papers this year, and invite all graduate students in Japanese art history to submit their work for next year’s competition.

All the best,

Xiaojin Wu
